Infection Risk Calculator

Caregiver Infection Risk Checker 🩹

Simple, plain-language tool to help you decide how urgently to seek help. Not a diagnosis.

Pick the closest option.
Pus or a bad smell can mean infection.
These can slow healing or raise infection risk.
Any red flag means you should contact a clinician today (or sooner).
Score: 0
What the terms mean

Serous=clear/yellowish normal fluid. Sanguineous=bloody. Purulent=pus (often infection). Periwound=skin around the wound.

This tool supports—not replaces—professional judgment. If you see fast-spreading redness, red streaks, fever, confusion, very bad pain, or a foul smell that’s getting worse, seek urgent care. For gentle daily care, keep the wound clean, moist (not wet), and covered with a non-stick pad. Avoid hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on open wounds.
